Flat Fee vs Percentage: What a Roof Supplement Really Costs

Most roof supplement companies charge a percentage of what the carrier approves, often 10% of the increase or more. American Roof Supplements charges a flat $150 per residential supplement, however much the carrier approves. Here is what that difference looks like on real numbers.

What you pay for one residential supplement

Approved increaseAt 10% of the increaseAt 15% of the increase (example)American Roof Supplements
$1,500$150$225$150
$3,000$300$450$150
$5,000$500$750$150
$8,000$800$1,200$150

At 10%, a percentage company only costs less than $150 when the approved increase is under $1,500. On average, our roofers get back more than $1,500 per supplement.

Over a year it adds up. A roofer who sends 50 supplements averaging a $3,000 increase pays $15,000 at 10%. With us, the same 50 supplements cost $7,500.

  • Residential Xactimate estimates are $50. If we wrote the estimate, the supplement for the same job is $100.

American Roof Supplements was founded by roofers, brothers Brock and Joe Mallon.

Why we don’t call the insurance company

We never talk to the carrier on your behalf, and that’s on purpose. The homeowner is the policyholder, and the carrier answers to them. Nobody carries more weight with an adjuster than the roofer on the job, working with a homeowner who wants the claim paid in full.

So we coach you instead. With every supplement, our team walks you through what to send, which photos back up each line item, and what to say in your emails and calls with the adjuster. You stay in control of your claim, and you get better at winning the next one.

Percentage companies usually charge nothing if the carrier approves nothing, and many take over the adjuster calls. If you want to hand that off completely, that model may suit you. If you want to keep control and keep more of the money, a flat fee does both.
